Tricia Titcomb is the founder of NiaHealthMoves St. Joseph and is responsible for bringing The Nia Technique to Northwest Missouri. She began teaching students in March of 2006 and has offered a full schedule of classes in St. Joseph on a regular basis since that time.
In addition to teaching her public classes at The Yoga Room in St. Joseph, Tricia was invited by Heartland Regional Medical Center's Wellness Connections to offer The Nia Technique to their hospital employees. Soon thereafter, Missouri Western State University brought her on board to teach two Nia sessions per school year through the Western Arts Institute.
Tricia has been dancing and moving in her body since the age of three. From there, she went on to study the dance arts for 15 years. At the age of 16 she was 1 of 300 chosen from a group of 5,000 applicants to travel extentsively around the globe as a lead dancer, doing as many as 3 shows per day!
Not only does Tricia bring her wealth of knowledge in movement to her classes, but she brings a deep passion for teaching others to move in the way their body is designed to be moved. She believes we have an innate desire to move organically in our bodies and that there is truly a dancer within us all!
It is Tricia's deepest desire to lead each and every student down a path to better health and greater comfort in their own body. Her classes foster a level of safety and ease allowing each person to move fully in their own way. She brings a fresh and energetic spirit to her class that is contagious and sparks within each student a true desire to move! Her ultimate goal is to encourage everyone who comes into a Nia class to be personally empowered to take full ownership of their bodies and their health, while experiencing more joy, more fun and all of the other 16 wonderful benefits of Nia!
Tricia continues to be a student of Nia, currently preparing to take her next belt in summer of 2009. She loves studying the human body and believes that teaching the science that supports The Nia Technique is a very important element in her class.
"I believe if we understand the design and function of our body, we will then have greater sensory awareness. This deeper connection will produce a desire to live more fully IN our body each day. This will put you on a direct path to better health and fitness. We are living longer, so it is our responsibility to do all that we can today to have the healthiest & strongest bodies possible. This will increase our overall feeling of wellbeing, therefore, improving our quality of life... " Through Movement We Find Health!"
In addition to her weekly Nia classes, Tricia offers workshops, presentations, and Nia demonstrations to companies and specialty groups such as, Cancer Recovery and Support. You can email Tricia at danceonstjoe@yahoo.com for more information.
